The National Yiddish Theatre-Folksbiene is America’s preeminent Yiddish theatre. It is the longest continuously producing Yiddish theatre company in the world. Each season, the Folksbiene presents more than 100 programs and performances. Productions and programs are open to all who wish to gain a deeper appreciation of Yiddish language and culture. Yiddish has embodied the hearts and minds of the Jewish people for centuries. It speaks with humor and passion of the human condition, our strengths and frailties, our hopes, fears and longings. The Folksbiene Outreach program is dedicated to bringing Yiddish Theatre to audiences who are unable to visit the Folksbiene in New York City. They strive to bring performances to communities with Holocaust survivors as well as new audiences who may not have experienced how fresh and enjoyable Yiddish culture can be. The Folksbiene Troupe is a group of young people who have come to the Yiddish world in their twenties and thirties and are passionate about finding their artistic expression through performance in the Yiddish language. They have learned Yiddish as adults. The Troupe performs in Yiddish, rehearses in Yiddish and even socializes in Yiddish. For information, call the Rego Park Jewish Center office at 718-459-1000.
