Movie Day

Paid to Love, 2 pm; Trent’s Last Case, 4 pm, A Girl in Every Port, 6 pm. The Museum of the Moving Image is hosting a 39-feature retrospective on quintessential Hollywood director Howard Hawks. In Paid to Love, the poverty-stricken kingdom of San Savona is trying to get a loan from an American banker but before it can, the king must marry off his son, who is more interested in cars than women and whose perpetual bachelorhood represents a threat to the kingdom’s stability. In Trent’s Last Case, Hawks’s last silent film, a leading financier commits suicide, disguises it as a murder framing his worst enemy, and invites the great detective Trent on the scene before the crime. A Girl in Every Port is a cynical sex farce about two globetrotting sailors who fight over a woman and then become best friends.
