New York Voices -- Vocal Jazz Quartet -- 25th Anniversary Celebration

Wednesday, December 11th 12:15 PM Student Union Lounge FREE

Hear the incredible vocal jazz of this world renowned quartet -- the group visited QCC in 2012 and electrified audiences with their complex harmonies, intricate rhythms, and orchestra-like use of their voices. NY Voices was moved by their work with our vocal students here, and the Music Department is proud to be able to offer their musical gifts to our campus again. New York Voices sings an eclectic mix of jazz standards, Latin music, pop tunes of many genres, and innovative songs of their own composition. This is a concert that is not to be missed -- invite your friends to campus to hear this world class vocal jazz performance, and note well the new venue Student Union Lounge.

Here is a brief bio:

2013 marks New York Voices 25th Anniversary in music. The Grammy Award winning vocal group has refined their musical story to a high art. They are known for their close- knit voicings, inspired arrangements and unparalleled vocal blend. Their chameleon-like musicianship allows them to move seamlessly from setting to setting, be it orchestral/big band to the intimate trio lineup. With deep interests rooted in jazz, Brazilian, R & B, classical, and pop, their music mixes traditional sensibilities with more than a dash of the unexpected. Like the great jazz vocal groups that have come before — Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, Singers Unlimited, and The Manhattan Transfer — they are firmly a part of that legacy and are dedicated to passing it on to generations to come.
Along with their extensive concert performances and recording schedules, NYV also works in the field of education, giving workshops and clinics to high school and college music students throughout the world. In 2009, they opened the New York Voices Bowling Green State University Vocal Jazz Camp. It is a wildly successful venture that admits students from all over the world at different ages and stages in their musical lives.
Individually, the four members are involved in a variety of projects including solo performances and recordings, teaching, writing and arranging. To learn more about NYV or the individual members, please visit Newyorkvoices.com.
And an example of a review:
"New York Voices lives up to its reputation as the most exciting vocal ensemble in current jazz, to collect such quality voices in one group is rare enough, yet the real trick of New York Voices is how well they mesh..."
