A joyous voice

Wednesday, January 30, 2008 11:43 AM EST
The Honor Chorus of the Immaculate Conception School in Jamaica Estates raises their voices in song during a tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the central library in Jamaica recently.

The performance, on Saturday, January 19, featured the honor students under the direction of Ed Burkard, singing a number of spirituals and other songs, including “When the Saints go Marching In,” “We See the Lord,” and the song widely recognized as the Hymn of the Civil Rights Movement, “We Shall Overcome,” among others.

After their performance, the chorus was treated to refreshments and special gifts by the library staff, and director Lynn Gogen.
