Last Season At Shea Stadium

Wednesday, March 26, 2008 6:58 PM EDT
Magic Moments

The Mets host the first regular season game in March in New York City baseball history and get a pinch single from back-up catcher Alberto “Bambi” Castillo in the 14th inning to outlast the Phillies, 1-0, before over 49,000 fans on Opening Day at Shea. It’s the Mets’ second 14-inning seasonal debut in four years, requires over four-and-a-half hours to complete, and becomes the longest MLB opener to remain scoreless since the Senators (and Walter Johnson) beat the Athletics, 1-0 in 15 innings, in 1926.

What is your favorite Mets magic moment from Shea Stadium? E-mail your “You gotta believe” pick in 100 words or less to Mets Magic at editorial@queenscourier.com.

We will collect them during the season and pick a grand prize winner who will receive a pair of opening day seats at Citi Field. Limit one entry per week per e-mail address and the decision of judges is final. The winner will be announced following the World Series.
