On Thursday, August 28 at 6 p.m., Briarwood Library will present Hawaiian Cultural Dance with the Aloha Iolani Dance Troupe. On Sunday, August 31 at noon, Black Emperor Entertainment and Irie Jam Media Group will present Irie Jamboree 2008. Irie Jamboree is an annual reggae and dancehall music festival in Queens, New York. The all-day event brings top name performers to Roy Wilkins Park in Jamaica /St. Albans, Queens. The list of artists are Sizzla Kalonji, Cocoa Tea, Elephant Man, Tarrus Riley, Serani, Beenie Man, Little Hero, Yellowman and many more. Tickets are $60; VIP Tickets are $100. On Sunday, August 31, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Free film showing of “A Walk in Queens,” with paid admission to Kingsland Homestead, 143-35 37th Avenue in Flushing. $3 for adults, $2 for students and seniors - children under 10 years old free. This film chronicles the various neighborhoods in Queens as you take a virtual walk with historian Barry Lewis. Every Saturday through September 27, from noon to 1:30 p.m., Socrates Sculpture Park presents Capoeira classes in its weekly exercise repertoire. The martial art originated in Brazil over 450 years ago. Self-defense techniques are concealed by graceful dance moves and spectacular acrobatics set to music, taught by Professor Abar‡. On Saturday, September 6 at 1 p.m., take the Flushing Town Hall Jazz Tour. Meet your guide at the New York City Landmark located at 137-35 Northern Boulevard, now a cultural center with a regionally acclaimed jazz series. Visit its permanent exhibit of photographs and memorabilia related to Queens jazz legends including Louis Armstrong and bass player Milt Hinton. From there proceed to the Louis Armstrong House Museum, the “Dorrie Miller” apartments which were home to Cannonball and Nat Adderley and still houses Jimmy Heath. On two Sundays, September 7 and 14, from 10 a.m. to noon, the Reform Temple of Forest Hills, located at 71-11 112th Street, will hold an Open House.
