Bayside Little League Roundup

Tuesday, May 26, 2009 5:17 PM EDT
Halfway through the season, two hotly-contested tie games marked a busy week for Bayside Little League’s Vision Protection Services team. On May 15, against the Re-Action Auto Service Center team, remarkable play from both squads was highlighted by Vision Protection Services’ Shawn Edelstein, who knocked a few solid hits up the middle and flashed some infield leather worthy of a Baseball Tonight Web Gem. Teammate Theodore Symeonide performed well at the plate and in the field, in a manner that reminded some observers of Ozzie Smith. The two teams played to a tie and will have to settle their matchup another day.

On May 17, the close game between Vision Protection Services (VPS) and State Warehouse Distributors also prompted strong performances by both teams. Angelo Koutouratsas and Vasili Koutouratsas exhibited outstanding play for Vision Protection Services. The Koutouratsas brothers continue a long tradition of brothers in baseball, from the DiMaggios (Joe, Dom and Vince) to the Molinas (Bengie, Jose and Yadier) to the Alomars (Roberto and Sandy). Angelo and Vasili have become a formidable combination in the team’s lineup, and both got key hits in the late innings that rallied VPS to a tie. Both received the game ball. – Marc Moniz
