Candidate visits One Stop
Richmond Hill Community Center

Thursday, August 20, 2009 3:18 PM EDT
Heidi Harrison Chain (center), candidate for City Council for the 29th District, recently visited the One Stop Richmond Hill Community Center and participated in the NASA Digital Learning Network. This free program for neighborhood children enables them to learn more about the planet and the universe through videoconferencing and web casts. Students are able to participate in live events featuring NASA experts and education specialists.

“I am very impressed by this wonderful program administered by Neme Alperstein [left] at the Richmond Hill Community Center,” said Chain. “It allows students in grades 3 through 5 the ability to participate with other students around the world as well as to learn from NASA astronauts via teleconferencing in a nontraditional way. I was also delighted to learn that the students who participate in this program tend to do better in school. This program should serve as a model for afterschool programs in our community.”

This program is one of many that are available for free at the One Stop Richmond Hill Community Center under the direction of President Simcha Waisman and Director Joan Bachert.
