NYHQ Provides Comprehensive Orthopaedics Care Right Here in Queens

The new Center for Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Medicine on Horace Harding on 164th St. in Fresh Meadows is just one highlight of the outstanding orthopaedics program that has been developed at New York Hospital Queens.

Jeffrey Rosen, M. D., chairman of the Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Department at NYHQ, says that today, Queens residents don’t have to leave the borough to access top-notch, comprehensive care for bone, joint and muscle pain.

In addition to the new facility in Fresh Meadows, Dr. Rosen has brought top physicians in many areas of specialization, so that patients can be cared for by a doctor who has expertise and experience in treating the patient’s specific problem.

Among these physicians is William Gibbs, M. D., who is medical director of rehabilitation medicine. He leads a comprehensive program including occupational and physical therapy, with a focus on the total patient, including exercise, nutrition and pain management, to help patients reach their goals of restored health, comfort and a functional lifestyle. Another member of the team is David Mayman, M.D., a pioneer of computer navigational orthopaedic surgery. Several other surgical team members are multilingual, including Tony Quach, M. D., who speaks Chinese; Alex Golant, M. D., who speaks Russian and Walter Besser, M. D., who speaks Spanish.

Among the areas of specialized surgery offered by the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation are spine surgery; hand surgery; total joint reconstruction for shoulder, hip and knee; joint replacement, resurfacing and preservation, and minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgery.

Dr. Rosen also notes that the department is also expanding its services for pediatric orthopaedics and sports medicine, with an emphasis on adolescents.

“What we’ve done is assemble an outstanding team of physicians and surgeons, so that we truly can say there is no reason for Queens residents to leave the borough for the comprehensive, high quality orthopaedic care that they need.”

The opening of the new Center in Fresh Meadows is also a wonderful service for the community, Dr. Rosen noted.

The 7,200-square foot center offers a convenient location with easy access, in an attractive and comfortable setting, and houses the practices of three board-certified orthopaedic surgeons, and a full range of physical therapy services and occupational therapy services including:

• Splinting/gracing and casting care for fractures, sprains

• Care for routine musculoskeletal injuries

• New technologies ranging from digital X-rays to therapies like Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and hyaluronic acid (HA)

• Vestibular rand lymphedema therapy
